We are a large, oversubscribed secondary school seeking an outstanding Non-Teaching Head of Year to join our dedicated pastoral team. This is a pivotal role at the heart of the school, focused on ensuring every student feels safe, supported, and able to achieve their full potential.

About the Role

As a Head of Year, you will lead the pastoral care for a designated year group, championing our core values of Compassion, Aspiration, Respect, and Equality. You will play a key role in promoting high standards of attendance, behaviour, wellbeing, and educational progress.

Working closely with students, staff, and families, you will:

  • Provide proactive pastoral leadership and support for students across your year group
  • Monitor and improve attendance, addressing barriers swiftly and effectively
  • Lead on positive behaviour strategies, ensuring high expectations are upheld consistently
  • Champion student wellbeing, safeguarding, and inclusion
  • Track and support academic progress, working with staff to remove barriers to learning
  • Build and sustain strong, supportive relationships with families and external agencies
  • Communicate clearly and effectively, ensuring parents and carers are fully engaged in their child’s education

About You

We are looking for someone who:

  • Demonstrates a genuine commitment to young people’s wellbeing and success
  • Embodies our values of compassion, aspiration, respect, and equality
  • Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage confidently with students, families, and professionals
  • Is organised, resilient, and able to manage a varied and fast-paced workload
  • Has experience working with young people in an educational or pastoral capacity
  • Is proactive, solution-focused, and committed to continuous improvement

What We Offer You

  • A welcoming, inclusive school community with a strong safeguarding culture
  • A well-established pastoral system and supportive leadership team
  • Opportunities for professional development and career progression
  • Access to an Employee Assistance Programme
  • A modern, well-resourced environment
  • The chance to make a lasting impact on the lives of young people

If you are committed to making a difference and want to be part of a school where every student is known, valued, and supported to succeed, we would be delighted to hear from you.

King Edward VI Sheldon Heath Academy is a mixed 11-18 academy serving a vibrant and diverse community.

Judged to be Good by Ofsted (February 2023), we are proud of our committed staff and aspirational pupils.
