About this Role

As a voluntary-aided school of 1,400 students, including a thriving Sixth Form of around 400 students, JCoSS is a highly regarded, oversubscribed faith school at the heart of our London community. Our students achieve excellent academic outcomes, with almost 50% of all GCSE grades at 7+ and nearly 50% of all A Level grades at A or A*. Alongside a broad and ambitious A Level offer, we are proud to provide a wide range of vocational pathways, ensuring that every student can pursue excellence in a way that reflects their talents and aspirations. While we celebrate our academic success, we are clear that grades alone do not define an outstanding education. At JCoSS, we are committed to developing open-minded, thoughtful young people - mensches - who do the right thing even when nobody is watching. We want our graduates to navigate a changing world with integrity and compassion, able to contribute positively and meaningfully to their and the wider community.

We are seeking a strong, experienced and energetic teacher to join our highly successful Media and Film Department. The department is part of the Health, Media and Film Faculty and has a strong reputation for excellence across the school. It currently consists of three full-time specialist teachers, supported by a dedicated Media technician. Teaching takes place in well-equipped, specialist accommodation with Apple Mac suites and a full range of industry-standard, up-to-date resources.

We offer Media Studies at GCSE and Cambridge Technical Digital Media at KS5 (Extended Certificate and Diploma options). We also offer Film Studies at GCSE and A Level. Applicants should have experience of teaching Media Studies (and ideally Film Studies) at secondary level, and the ability to deliver vocational and academic courses (or closely related specifications).

Student numbers are strong and outcomes are excellent. Many of our students progress to Higher Education or directly into media-related careers. Our Key Stage 5 offer reflects the school’s commitment to high-quality vocational pathways; students choose these courses purposefully, sometimes alongside A Levels.

The department has a high profile within the school and is known for its collaborative ethos, professional expertise and strong culture of support. This is an exciting opportunity to join a cohesive and forward-thinking team that is committed to achieving outstanding outcomes and inspiring students to succeed in the creative industries.

At JCoSS, teaching is both purposeful and demanding. Our staff are deeply committed to our students and to one another, contributing fully to the academic, pastoral and co-curricular life of the school. In return, you will join a collaborative, forward-thinking department, with excellent facilities and colleagues who are generous with their expertise.

Pastoral care at JCoSS is phenomenal and central to who we are. Our dedicated team of over 15 pastoral professionals work tirelessly to ensure that every student is known, supported and challenged to flourish. Relationships matter here: warmth and humour sit comfortably alongside high expectations and mutual respect. We also believe that great schools are built by great professionals who are themselves lifelong learners. Continuous improvement is at the heart of our culture; sitting still is never an option at JCoSS. We are committed to developing our staff through high-quality professional learning, thoughtful coaching and a shared commitment to reflection and growth.

JCoSS is a place where ambition and kindness go hand in hand, where young people are encouraged to strive, to think deeply and to act with integrity. If you share our belief in the transformative power of education and want to play a meaningful role in shaping the next generation, we would be delighted to hear from you.
