About this Role

The Bridge School, Sedgemoor are seeking to appoint a permanent, full time Science Teacher – MPS/UPS to start ..... We are looking for dynamic, resilient and flexible teacher who can deliver GCSE Science to join our team.

The Bridge School, Sedgemoor is one of four Pupil Referral Units commissioned by Somerset County Council and Somerset schools.  We provide services through a number of centres for students who have a range of social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs. It is an exciting time for the PRU's in Somerset as they are currently being reorganised. The Bridge School will join with Taunton Deane Partnership College from 1 April 2026 and this role will provide a great opportunity for the successful candidate to work with a wider range of children across the school.

Our Pupil Referral Unit provides support for mainstream schools in Sedgemoor. We support a number of students aged from 4 - 16 years old, where they are at risk of, or have been, permanently excluded from mainstream schools.  We also have a number of students with identified SEN needs who have EHCPs and are placed at The Bridge by the local authority. We also provide education for students who cannot access school for medical reasons.

Science Teacher:

We are looking for a science teacher to deliver Combined and Single Science subjects up to GCSE level. There is a need to have an awareness and understanding of COSHH and safe storage of science equipment.

The successful candidate will be expected to support HLTAs in delivery and planning of lessons. In addition, teachers will be key teachers / tutors for small groups of learners.

There is a need to be flexible in your approach, be sympathetic to the individual needs of students and be able to differentiate to a high level to work within our multi-site school in the Bridgwater area. Ideally you should have experience working with young people who may have significant gaps in their education and want to help them re-engage in their learning.

You will be required to have a clean driving license and be prepared to work across the different centres for the school based in both Bridgwater and Taunton.

We can offer a range of CPD opportunities and the opportunity to work as part of a very skilled, supportive and experienced team. There will be opportunities for career progression as part of the wider partnership of schools as The Bridge works within a formal partnership with The Bower Learning Partnership (Polden Bower and Avalon Special Schools)

If you feel you have what it takes to work with us to achieve the very best for our students, we would very much like to hear from you.

Please contact Jo Stamford, Assistant HR Manager, should you need any further information on 01278 496386 or HR@poldenbower.org.uk. Enquiries and visits are welcomed

The Bridge School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.  This appointment will be subject to enhanced DBS disclosure, medical clearance proof of the right to work in the UK and satisfactory references.

Following the acceptance of your interview, an online check will be carried out  as detailed in the latest Keeping Children Safe in Education guidelines
