About this Role

Loreto College is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and highly qualified Teacher of English to join our vibrant and successful English department. The ability to contribute to the teaching of English Language, English Literature, English Language and Literature A levels and GCSE English is highly desirable. English A levels at Loreto College are popular subjects which deliver high success rates and excellent student progression, with many students going onto competitive universities. The department runs a range of extra-curricular activities and trips that make English an exciting subject to study at Loreto.

As a Teacher of English at Loreto you will be responsible for delivering high-quality teaching and learning under the leadership of the Head of Department.  You will undertake regular assessment of students’ work and provide timely constructive feedback. You will also monitor and support the progress and development of students using the college’s bespoke in-house systems, as well as building and maintaining positive relationships with students. Additionally, you will contribute to the development and delivery of the subject in line with awarding organisation specifications and through working closely and collaboratively with your colleagues.

 About the College

Loreto Sixth Form College has been awarded a second consecutive outstanding rating in all areas under the latest framework in our December 2022 inspection. Ofsted noted "Students’ behaviour is exemplary” and that “Students who study at Loreto do exceptionally well.”  Ofsted also noted that “Leaders place a very high priority on staff mental health and wellbeing including workload. For example, staff can access counselling services, chaplaincy support, and the employee assistance programme.”  The English department places a high value on collaborative work in developing lesson resources and sharing good practice. It is a creative and supportive team.

Loreto Sixth Form College is committed to safeguarding children and young people. All candidates and post holders including volunteers are subject to appropriate vetting procedures as outlined in Part 3 of Keeping Children Safe in Education 2025. This includes an online search for shortlisted candidates, as well as a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service Enhanced check with barred list information and any other relevant checks with statutory bodies for successful candidates.

We can consider both full and part time applications. If you are applying for a part time position, please indicate this on your application along with your preferred FTE and working days.
