About this Role

We are seeking an enthusiastic and forward-thinking Science Lead Teacher to join our dedicated teaching team and drive an engaging, inspiring and fully inclusive science curriculum across our school.  This is an exceptional opportunity for an experienced science teacher with curriculum leadership experience in leading curriculum or an ambitious teacher ready to step into a new and rewarding challenge.

In this pivotal role as Science Lead Teacher, you will make a tangible difference to the lives of our students.  You will teach and shape high-quality teaching and learning for secondary and post-16 students, delivering across two of our learning pathways to meet a diverse range of needs in a fully accessible laboratory.  You will play an active role in the wider school community, working collaboratively to meet students’ individual needs and help them achieve their full potential with the aim to ensure our students leave us confident, curious and motivated to understand the world around them.

In this role you will

  • lead the teaching, planning and delivery of an inspirational and accessible whole-school science curriculum
  • oversee standards, progression and outcomes for all students in science
  • monitor student progress and ensure timely, impactful support for learners
  • work collaboratively with the Education Leadership Team (ELT) to develop and embed a robust moderation, evaluation and review process for science
  • uphold safeguarding responsibilities and promote the welfare of children and young people in line with school policies and statutory guidance.

This is a fantastic chance to make a meaningful impact on a growing and evolving curriculum area while benefiting from a supportive and collaborative staff team and opportunities for leadership development.  Students at Valence behave impeccably, are highly motivated and thrive on teaching that challenges and excites them.

What we offer

  • excellent CPD and paid training opportunities
  • generous pension scheme with life cover
  • access to retail discounts, health and wellbeing support
  • staff well-being sessions and events
  • free on-site parking and refreshments

This post is suitable for both experience teachers looking to add an additional dimension to their practice, or an ambitious teacher looking to take on a new challenge.  Previous experience of teaching SEND would be an advantage but not essential.  Visits to the school are encouraged - please contact us to arrange.

Valence School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of every student and we expect all our staff and volunteers to share this commitment.  We value diversity and promote equality for all.  References will be taken up before interview and online checks undertaken for shortlisted candidates.  The successful applicant will require an enhanced DBS check (this post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act).
