About this Role

Merchant Taylors' School is seeking an outstanding and inspirational 1st XV Rugby Coach to join our ambitious rugby programme from August 2026.

This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated coach with a passion for performance rugby and player development to work within one of the leading independent school sporting environments in the country.  The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the continued development of rugby at Merchant Taylors’ School, coaching talented young players within a high-performing and values-driven programme.

The successful candidate will support and lead rugby coaching sessions, coach and manage fixtures, and contribute to the continued development of players and teams across the rugby programme.  Based on the current timetable structure, coaching commitments are expected on Mondays, Wednesdays and selected Saturdays during the rugby season.

The role offers an excellent opportunity to work within an ambitious school rugby environment alongside experienced coaches and motivated student-athletes.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

  • Plan and deliver high-quality coaching sessions
  • Support staff leading rugby sessions across the programme
  • Assist in delivering the “MTS Way” within the rugby environment
  • Coach and manage teams during school fixtures
  • Officiate fixtures when required
  • Supervise pupils during fixtures and rugby activities
  • Provide feedback to the Director of Rugby regarding player and programme development
  • Contribute positively to the wider sporting culture of the School
  • Undertake additional duties reasonably requested by the Director of Rugby

Safeguarding Responsibilities

The post holder is responsible for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young people with whom they come into contact and must adhere to the School’s Safeguarding Policy Statement at all times.

Should the post holder become aware of any actual or potential risks to the safety or welfare of children, these concerns must be reported immediately to the Head Master.
