About this Role

We have an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic, dedicated Subject Leader for Religious Studies to join our team at Edward Peake as we transition to a Secondary School.

This is a perfect opportunity for someone looking to take their next step into middle leadership or an experienced subject leader.

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading and managing the Religious Studies department. They will be accountable to a line manager from the Senior Leadership Team. This is an important post, designed to further promote and develop learning within the school. As a Church of England school, Religious Studies is a compulsory subject at GCSE for our students.

The successful candidate will be an effective leader and will be able:

  • to demonstrate outstanding classroom practice and innovation

  • to teach Religious Studies across Key Stages 3 and 4

  • to build and embed a successful KS4 Religious Studies curriculum that meets the needs of all pupils

  • to ensure consistency and shared good practice across the department

  • to manage the department’s quality assurance and moderation procedures

  • to lead and develop a staff team, attend and lead regular meetings and provide a major input into whole school priorities

  • to contribute to the School Improvement and Development Plan and promote innovation within the department

  • to follow and implement the school’s policies

  • to take responsibility for the effective management of the department’s resources, schemes of work and budgets etc.

  • to monitor the progress that all pupils make within religious studies and work with the department to ensure effective interventions are in place to maximise the progress of all pupils.

  • to develop additional opportunities for pupils to utilise their skills and knowledge both in and out of the classroom.

All teachers appointed to the school are allocated a tutor group. A candidate who can demonstrate experience and a willingness to undertake wider responsibilities would be welcomed.

We wish to attract a high calibre candidate who will be fully involved in taking the department forward in the next stage of its development, particularly with the school transitioning to secondary. This post is a very important one and will need a team player with high expectations, flair, drive, determination, energy and a strong commitment to raising standards and providing opportunities for all learners.

Visits to the school are welcomed and encouraged.

We reserve the right to appoint before the application deadline, so early applications are encouraged.

This school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff to share this commitment.  A DBS check will be required for this post.
