About this Role

About Us

Lealands High School is a vibrant, diverse, and rapidly growing 11-16 academy situated in the heart of Luton. We pride ourselves on our positive learning environment, high expectations, and a community where both students and staff are supported to thrive.

Our Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) department is a collaborative, energetic team. We are looking for an ambitious leader to shape the future of our languages curriculum, driving a passion for international cultures and global communication across the school.

The Role

We are seeking an outstanding, inspirational, and driven Director of MFL to lead our successful Languages department.

The ideal candidate will be a Spanish specialist who can lead the strategic development of the subject across Key Stages 3 and 4. The ability to also teach French is highly desirable and will be a distinct advantage in managing our dual-language offering.

This is an exceptional opportunity for an experienced Head of Department looking for a new challenge, or a highly accomplished teacher ready to step into their first major leadership role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic leadership, management, and direction for the MFL department.

  • Lead, support, and mentor a team of dedicated language teachers.

  • Oversee curriculum design and implementation for Spanish (KS3/KS4) and French (KS3).

  • Teach high-quality, inspiring Spanish lessons up to GCSE level.

  • Monitor student progress data across the department and implement effective interventions to maximize outcomes.

  • Promote languages across the wider school community through cultural events, trips, and extracurricular activities.

What We Are Looking For:

  • A qualified teacher (QTS) with a degree in Spanish or a related subject.

  • A proven track record of delivering excellent GCSE results in Spanish.

  • The ability to teach French is highly preferred.

  • Strong leadership qualities, with the ability to motivate, challenge, and support colleagues.

  • Up-to-date knowledge of current educational developments and pedagogy within MFL.

  • Exceptional communication and organisational skills.

What We Offer:

  • A generous TLR allowance reflecting the significance of this leadership role.

  • Continuous Professional Development (CPD) and tailored leadership training.

  • A supportive Senior Leadership Team (SLT) committed to your professional growth.

  • Motivated students who are keen to learn.

  • A modern, well-resourced school building with excellent facilities.

How to Apply

Visits to the school are warmly welcomed and encouraged. To arrange a visit or for an informal discussion about the role with the Headteacher, please contact our HR team at recruitment@lealands.luton.sch.uk.

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.  Applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS)

CVs will not be accepted for any posts based in schools
