Do you believe in ‘Excellence for Everyone’? At West Oaks we do.
West Oaks School is a 2–19 special school and a highly rewarding place to work and lead.
Having entered a new phase of leadership, we are strategically focused on strengthening
and aligning our teaching and learning offer across our three sites, supporting over 500
pupils with SEND across Leeds.
We are seeking a full time experienced and aspirational Teaching and Learning Coordinator to join
our senior leadership team at our Woodhouse Learning Lower School site from April 2026.
This is a key strategic role, working closely with the Principal and Head of School to drive

At West Oaks, we have high expectations and an unwavering commitment to meeting the
needs of our pupils. Our values sit at the heart of everything we do, and we strive for
Excellence for Everyone — pupils, families, staff, and the wider community. We are proud to
be a positive, inclusive, and supportive place to work, where staff wellbeing and
professional growth are prioritised.
West Oaks is an oversubscribed specialist provision that has benefited from significant local
authority investment to expand and develop our facilities and curriculum offer. As we have
reached full capacity, this role is vital in ensuring consistency, quality, and continued
improvement in teaching and learning across all phases and sites.
If you are highly skilled, enthusiastic, ambitious, energetic, dedicated to raising achievement
and ready for a new, rewarding, and exciting challenge, we would like to hear from you.
As Teaching and Learning Coordinator, you will:
Lead and develop high-quality teaching and learning across the school.
Support, challenge, and develop staff through coaching, modelling, and professional
dialogue.
Contribute to whole-school self-evaluation, improvement planning, and staff
development.
Work strategically with other senior leaders to ensure consistency and impact.
Play a key role in shaping curriculum design and inclusive practice for pupils with
SEND.
The successful candidate will:
Be an exceptional classroom practitioner with strong leadership skills.
Have experience in Early Years and/or Primary education and the ability to transfer
this effectively to a specialist setting.
Be passionate about improving outcomes for pupils with SEND.
Be collaborative, reflective, and committed to professional learning.
In return, we offer:
The opportunity to make a meaningful impact in a large, well-established special
school.
Strong support from an experienced and committed senior leadership team.
A comprehensive induction and ongoing professional development tailored to your
role.
Access to high-quality CPD both in school and externally.
A positive, supportive staff culture with a strong team ethos.
Access to the Smartclinic wellbeing package and Cycle to Work scheme.
West Oaks operates across three sites: Woodhouse Learning, Boston Spa Learning, and
Headingley Learning. The successful candidate will work closely with the Principal and Head
of School to ensure consistently high standards and outcomes for all pupils.
We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young
