ICT OPERATIONS MANAGER 

 

The Pines is an all age special school, we have 280 pupils on roll, from the age of 4 up to 16 - all with a diagnosis of Autism.  We are part of the Birmingham Special Schools Cooperative Trust and are a Foundation Special School.  Our vision is to create a safe and happy environment for children to develop life-long communication skills to become valued members of modern day society.

We are seeking to appoint committed, hard-working, well organised, enthusiastic ICT Operations Manager to join our team.  

Key Requirements: 

We are looking for someone who: 

  • Has at least 2 years experience of School ICT systems and demands  

  • Has excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a calm, friendly and positive, professional demeanour 

  • Is well organised, flexible and methodical – with an eye for detail 

  • Can manage their workload effectively and prioritise tasks  

 

Key responsibilities 

  • Manage school ICT requirements 

  • Assist and advise the Senior Leadership Team with identifying suitable upgrades to equipment and the Schools IT Infrastructure. 

  • Maintain and manage support requests 

  • Manage hardware and cloud solutions 

  • Ensure an up-to-date inventory of ICT equipment, software licenses and consumables are maintained. 

  • Manage MIS applications and user accounts. 

  • Support and manage the database infrastructure for onsite servers and systems that are not cloud based. Including, door access control, WiFi, SIMS etc 

  • Responsible for installing and maintaining school networks and infrastructure equipment including servers, switches and firewall devices. 

  • Troubleshoot Firewalls & Switches 

  • Manage the installation of all new computer hardware including wireless, fibre optic, CAT6 networks and external projects, as required 

  • Responsibility to ensure off-site encrypted back-ups are in place and tested in accordance to Cyber Security requirements. 

  • Configure & maintain networks in line with Cyber Security requirements 

  • Adhere to the ethos and vision of the school

  1. Job Purpose 

  1. To be responsible for all ICT systems, software, processes and hardware within the school and external sites and liaise with the Senior Management to ensure that the ICT Network is fully supporting the teaching programme 

  1. To ensure that the IT systems of the school are readily available for the use of pupils and staff, both teaching and administrative and to develop those systems to provide new, faster and better services for the whole school population (including Governors, parents, prospective parents etc.) 

  1. To offer technical classroom support to school staff before, after, or during lessons to enhance pupil learning 

  1. Key Responsibilities 

  1. To devise an ICT development strategy for the whole school, including use of PCs, laptops, network infrastructure, network appliances and peripherals including maintaining a network log-book that provides a comprehensive technical overview of its configurationTo maintain an asset register of both networked and standalone PCs for audit purposes 

  1. To manage the interconnectivity across the two sites providing IT support and maintenance services to the schoolTo monitor hardware and run a troubleshooting system to pinpoint any faults within the network and rectifying such errors 

  1. To ensure and manage the configuration and installation of new software onto the network and to maintain existing installations including maintaining software licences  

  1. To prepare a specification for, procure, build, configure and install a wide variety of computer hardware into the school.  

  1. To support the SBM in monitoring the ICT budget and forward planning 

  1. To provide regular monitoring reports to the appropriate members of the Senior School Management and/or the Governing Body and related support staff 

  1. To develop and enhance ICT services and implement new Policies that enhance network security and to allow the implementation of new services 

  1. To maintain security alerting systems, for example Alert Us 

  1. To test the network security policy to ensure that the desired user accounts/group accounts are under each specific specification 

 

  1. To design, create, test and implement new services to expand the availability, security and ease of the use of the network which may include: 

  1. Developing programme software to improve the ICT provision to the school 

  1. Understanding network operations to be able to expand the ICT operations and administer the systems 

  1. Understanding establishment backup requirements both on and off-site and procedures to prevent against data loss in a disaster recovery situation 

  1. To develop appropriate Intranet policies to ensure that unacceptable usage and access is barred and to ensure appropriate reports and logs of activity is maintained 

  1. To ensure that all those involved with the school's ICT network have a sound working knowledge of all major ICT acts and laws. This includes: The Data Protection Act, The Computer Misuse Act, The Copyrights, Designs and Patents Act and Freedom of Information legislation etc.  

  1. To implement new national and local developments and support the SBM in relation to the Annual Census 

  1. To develop systems and operating procedures so that there is a clear fault-finding support system to ensure that problems are swiftly identified and resolved 

  1. To develop systems for the effective in-class support to teachers and pupils. To provide training and instruct pupils on ICT related issues and inform them of procedures that are in place for any potential problems they may encounter 

  1. To foster partnership links with other ICT providers, the Local Authority, ESS, Entrust and CMIS/SIMS agents 

  1. To manage the supplying, organising and running/maintaining/staffing of an out of hours ICT provision for the school community. This may include setting up/installing remote access provisions for staff 

  1. To develop a quality assurance programme for all software, and that there is a clear service level agreement for the provision of ICT support to serve within the school  

  1. Individuals have a responsibility for prompting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young people he/she is responsible for or comes into contact with 

  1. To ensure all tasks are carried out with due regard to Health and Safety 

  1. To undertake appropriate professional development. 

  1. To adhere to the ethos of the school 

  1. To promote the agreed vision and aims of the school 

  1. To set an example of personal integrity and professionalism 

  1. Attendance at appropriate staff meetings and parents evenings 

  1. Any other duties as commensurate within the grade in order to ensure the smooth running of the school
