Bishop Challoner Catholic College is looking to recruit a committed and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join our team. We welcome applications from candidates with experience in either Primary or Secondary settings.

Bishop Challoner has approximately 200 students with a wide range of Special Educational Needs. This appointment will help ensure we maintain and develop our high-quality support for these students. As a Catholic school, we recognise the uniqueness of every young person.

As part of our ongoing commitment to inclusive education, the school is particularly focused on enhancing support for pupils in the following areas: Dyslexia, Speech and Language difficulties, and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Direct experience in these areas would be desirable but not essential. Candidates with specialisms in other areas of need are also encouraged to apply, as training and professional development will be provided for the right candidate.

The successful candidate will:

  • ·         Be passionate about minimising the effects of disadvantage to improve academic outcomes.
  • ·         Be skilled and experienced in identifying and supporting special educational needs
  • ·         Be able to adapt interventions to meet the needs of each student.
  • ·         Have excellent literacy, numeracy, and communication skills are essential.
  • ·         Have high adaptability.
  • ·         Have a sound knowledge about speech, language and communication needs and understanding of literacy difficulties.

Bishop Challoner Catholic College is a highly successful, heavily over-subscribed mixed 11-19 Catholic comprehensive school in the South of Birmingham.
